AIR JORDAN XXXIV

Reductive by design, the XXXIV provides everything you need and nothing you don’t.

I worked as the CGI artist and co‑art‑directed a short film focused on the shoe’s lightweight engineering — specifically the eclipse plate and the distinctive hole created by the reduction process.

Because we had only a few seconds to tell the story, we translated the technical concept into a tactile, cinematic moment by converting the sole into a malleable “clay” material on screen. This allowed us to show the crafting process visually: carving, stripping away layers and revealing the finished, polished form in a way that clearly communicates weight reduction and structural intent.

Starting from a 3D scan of the boot and CAD files for the sole, we matched geometry, textures and materials to the real product and then drove the visual narrative with tight close‑ups, material transformations and timing that sell the reduction story in a brief runtime.

Key contributions

  • Role: CGI artist & art direction on selected shots

  • Translated the eclipse plate concept into a tactile clay‑to‑polish visual treatment to show material removal and refinement

  • Led look development, shading and texturing to preserve realism while enabling stylised material transitions (malleable clay → polished polymer)

  • Designed camera timing, edits and micro‑animation to communicate lightness and structural detail within seconds

  • Handled final lighting, renders and compositing to emphasise thin edges, micro shadows and the hole geometry that define the sole’s lightweight performance
